I'm Barbara Basbanes Richter, and this is my new home on the internet.
After years of having my work scattered across different websites—ghostwriting here, bylined articles there, podcast over here, startups everywhere—I decided it was time to bring it all together in one place.
This site is where I'll be writing about the things I care about: the craft of storytelling, the business of writing, what makes books matter, and how we help people find their voices on the page. You'll find my published work, thoughts on ghostwriting, updates from my various projects, and conversations with interesting people who have something to say.
I've borrowed my podcast title "Writing for Immortality" from H.J. Jackson's book about which writers achieve lasting fame and why. It's not always about quality - sometimes it's about positioning, champions, and deliberate efforts to create work that endures. Whether it's a Fortune 500 CEO's memoir or a kid's first story, the best writing is created with the intention of lasting. Not everything will achieve immortality, but everything should be written as if it might.
